About National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)

  • National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)ย is a national-level scholarship program inย India.
  • The NTSE program started in the year 1963 by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training)
  • It is one of the most prestigious exams in India.
  • This exam is conductedย to identify and recognize students with high intellect and academic talent
  • It honors’ and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship for the entire Academic Career.
  • The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law

Objectives of NTSE

  • To Identify and Nurture talented students.
  • To help talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship for a entire academic career.

Selection Process

  • There is a two stage selection process for NTSE, Stage one and stage two, where stage one is state level and stage two is national level.

STAGE -1
  • At Stage-I, selection is done at State or UT level through a written examination.
  • Each State /Union Territory recommends a fix quota of students to appear in the Stage โ€“II examination.
  • Stage-1 is conducted by SIERT (State Institute of Educational Research and Training).
  • The mode of examination for Stage 1 is offline
  • Stage one consist two papers , Paper one (for mental Ability) and Paper two (for Scholastic ability)
  • Total number of question asked in stage 1 are 200, in which 100 questions are for section one and rest 100 questions are in section two.
  • Total marks for stage one is 200.
STAGE- 2
  • Only after qualifying Stage-I a student appears for Stage-II.
  • Stage-2 is conducted by NCERT at national level.
  • Every student who scores the required number of marks at Stage-II is eligible for the scholarship program.
  • Stage 2 is a national level exam which is conducted by NCERT
  • Stage two also consist two papers , Paper one (for mental Ability) and Paper two (for Scholastic ability)
  • Total number of question asked in stage 2 are 200, in which 100 questions are for section one and rest 100 questions are in section two.
  • Total marks for stage 2 is 200

Eligibility Criteria

Stage- 1
  • NTSE Stage-I is conducted by State/UT bodies.
  • The students studying in Class X are eligible for appearing in the test.
  • Student must be studying in a recognized school in the respective State or Union Territory.
  • Students registered under Open Distance Learning (ODL) are also considered eligible for the scholarship examination, if he/she is below the age of 18 years ( as on 1stย July of that year ) and is not employed while appearing for Class X exam.
Stage- 2
  • Students, securing 80% marks or above in the State level exam, are eligible for the Stage-II, to be held by NCERT at National level.
  • Around 4000 students are shortlisted for the National level NTSE across the country.
  • All the students, who secure the minimum required marks at Stage-II, are eligible for the scholarship program

NTSE Exam Pattern

Part 1 โ€“ Mental Ability test (MAT)
Part 2 โ€“ Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
  • This part contains analytical and logical reasoning based questions.
  • This section tests the candidateโ€™s reasoning, ability to think, evaluate, ability to discriminate and visualize.
  • A total of 100 questions are asked to be answered under this section.
  • Questions are asked from analogies, classifications, series, pattern perception, coding-decoding, hidden figures and problem solving etc.
  • Test duration is 120 minutes for section 1 (MAT)
  • This part consists of 100 questions from Language and Science, Mathematics and Social science.
    • Science 40 questions
    • Social Science 40 questions
    • Mathematics 20 questions
  • The section judges the aspirantโ€™s reading abilities, interpretation, evaluation and general awareness of the subjects.
  • Test duration is 120 minutes for section 2 (SAT)

  • There is no negative marking applicable at this stage.

Scholarship
